Coatings Engineering Specialist. Reporting to the Manager, Operations & Supply Chain Optimization, the Coatings Engineering Specialist is responsible for the following job duties: Plan and implement projects related to our paint systems (powderiquid coatings + e-coat). Optimize our various surface treatment systems & equipment. Assist with root cause analysis of any coating based defects leading to paint quality issues. Support the operations team with troubleshooting issues associated with paint and surface pretreatment systems. Keep abreast of best practices in the industry and offer recommendations for further development & optimization of current coatings and paint practices. Run research and development testing on new coating technologies for continuous improvement. Daily supervision of one Chemical Technician and one Chemical Engineering intern. Travel may be required 2 - 4 times per year to visit other BRP sites, to attend professional conferences, and to research possible capital investments at other facilities. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymers and Coatings Technology, or closely related field, or a foreign degree that is equivalent to such a degree; 12 months experience as Coatings Engineer, Chemical Engineer, R&D Intern, Manufacturing Engineering Intern, Graduate Assistant or related. The required 1 year of experience must include the following, which may have been gained concurrently with each other: 1) 12 months experience running research and development testing on new coating technologies for continuous improvement. 2) 12 months experience running paint and coating performance tests. 3) 12 months of engineering experience working with a high volume, manufacturing industrial paint application and surface treatment system.
