Position provides assistance to Dr. Shi-hua Xiang of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to conduct a grant-funded research project. The laboratory is primarily a molecular virology lab studying human and animal viral pathogens. Commonly used cellular and molecular experiments will be performed such as cell culturing, gene cloning, DNA sequencing, protein expression and purification, Western blotting, virus infection and neutralization etc. Position will also conduct ordering, and keep lab maintenance and supply inventory. Bachelor's degree in microbiology or related field plus one year of related experience in a laboratory setting required; equivalent education/experience considered. Experience using various lab equipment and software applications including Word and Excel in a Windows and Macintosh environment necessary. Experience in bacterial engineering and protein expression preferred. Knowledge in molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, genetic and bacterial engineering, and molecular biology desirable. Prefer lab work in a university setting. Effective at troubleshooting and optimizing protocols helpful. Excellent benefits including staff/dependent scholarship program. Applicant review begins October 5.
