Automotive Technician Maintenance Shop
BI-WEEKLY STARTING SALARY RANGE : $1,543 - $1,852

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Under the direction of the Maintenance Shop Supervisor, the primary responsibilities include the repair and maintenance of City owned vehicles, primarily medium sized trucks and heavy equipment. Duties include routine services such as fluid checks and oil changes; minor and major repairs of heating/air conditioning systems and hydraulic systems; electrical systems, diagnostic and repair; brake work; repair of gas and diesel engines; as well as automatic or manual transmission repairs. The position requires the ability to use standard office computer programs and sufficient physical condition to meet the demands of the job which include lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds and working both inside and in outside weather conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS : High school diploma or GED equivalency; a Valid Drivers License; and demonstrated experience as a technician performing heavy equipment and vehicle maintenance or repair is preferred. Qualifying experience should include knowledge of general mechanical practices and techniques; ability to accurately diagnose and recommend cost effective repairs; knowledge of heating/air conditioning, electrical and hydraulic systems, technical manuals, and computer diagnostic tools; a commitment to work and operate equipment safely; and a history of good customer service. Preference will be given to applicants that have a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience; industry certification (A.S.E. or similar); demonstrated experience in diesel mechanics as well as medium to heavy trucks and large construction equipment. The applicant selected for hire must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Drivers License within one month of hire.
