The State Training School (STS) at Eldora offers a holistic social, behavioral, psychiatric, academic and vocational program that utilizes counseling, treatment and consequences paired with praise and opportunity to males, ages 12 to 18 years old who have been adjudicated delinquent. Services and programs provide individualized treatment and offer comprehensive education, with a goal of transitioning the young man back to his community. The facility is operated by the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS).
The program available for residents includes:
- General education studies
- Special education programs
- Title I
- Competency-based vocational programs
- High School Equivalency Diploma (formerly GED)
The Education Department is the heart of this organization and needs to replace a 20-year employee who held the Secretary 1 position. The person occupying this position provides clerical support to the academic and vocational school programs. The Secretary 1 will perform specialized clerical tasks of moderate difficulty and subject matter diversity, and perform related work as required. The position provides excellent compensation and exceptional benefits.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Experience equal to one year of full-time clerical or closely related work;
OR post high school course work in an accredited secretarial, business, or closely related curriculum may be substituted for the required experience on a month-for-month basis;
OR completion of thirty (30) semester (or equivalent) hours of undergraduate college level course work may be substituted for the one year of required experience;
OR certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;
OR employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes permanent status as a Typist-Advanced.
Salary: $31,200.00 to $45,406.40 Annually.
