POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Summary: Researcher III is a variable time, grant-funded position in the School of Biological Sciences (Plant Biology) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Qualifications: Qualifications include a PhD in a STEM field, experience working with K-12 teachers on professional development, STEM pedagogy, and scientific research. Three years of experience managing federal grants and preparing annual reports at the graduate assistant or professional level. Experience developing and implementing academic and summer research and leadership programs for teachers. Knowledge and skills to oversee classroom implementation of active learning in biology focusing on environmental sustainability.

Duties: The selected individual will be responsible for daily operations of an NSF funded grant program dedicated to the professional development of middle school STEM teachers. The incumbent will be responsible for development of programs and projects geared toward teaching science and pedagogy courses, organizing summer research experiences and workshops, and coordinating all teacher participation activities such as research, curriculum development and leadership activities. The incumbent will facilitate communication between program participants, principal investigators, contributing SIUC faculty and staff, and community partner organizations. S/he will be responsible for collecting data used for program improvement and assessment, supervising the program staff, keeping extensive and accurate records of participants, and maintaining program website. S/he will assist in the identification and recruitment of qualified teachers, and will deliver specific training and professional development seminars and courses.

Effective Start Date: Position will begin as soon as possible, and is expected to continue for one year, renewable with availability of funding.
