Assistant Lecturer (Preschool for All Program Coordinator)

Position: Assistant Lecturer (Preschool for All Program Coordinator) position in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education and Human Services, Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Responsibilities include serving as a Preschool for All Program Coordinator in the Southern Region Early Childhood Programs with supervisory responsibility of Teachers and Parent Educators serving three to five year old children and their families in the Preschool for All Program.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Master's Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or other related fields of study.
  2. Supervisory experience, organization and communication skill competency, computer skills, and a team approach philosophy.
  3. Experience and leadership in establishing partnerships within schools and communities in support of families with young children.
  4. Ability to develop and maintain positive communication and relationships with the program coordinators, evaluation and assessment specialist, central office support staff, Illinois State Board of Education consultants, university personnel, community programs personnel, and public school district administrators and data technicians.
  5. Philosophical orientation consistent with developmentally appropriate educational practices as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. The Professional Educator License with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education and/or graduate level coursework which also include the fields of psychology and social work.
  2. Contributions to assessment and professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels are preferred.
  3. Knowledge of the Illinois State Board of Education Preschool for All grants and an awareness of working with pre-service interns and practicum students is preferred.
  4. Knowledge of Creative Curriculum and the Early Learning Scale is preferred.

Duties of the Position:

  1. Provide supervisory oversight of Preschool for All Staff and family programs.
  2. Provide guidance and evaluation to staff on classroom curriculum, assessment, and collaboration practices.
  3. Maintain ongoing communication and serve as a model of early childhood professionalism through interactions with the Program Director, other Coordinators, Superintendents, Principals, Teachers, Parent Educators, Office Staff, and Community Agency Staff, University Personnel.
  4. Communicate high expectations of professional conduct to Teachers, Parent Educators, and other staff members.
  5. Coordinate annual Child Find efforts in collaboration with school districts, special education cooperatives, Head Starts, Child and Family Connections, childcare programs, community colleges, and other community partners.
  6. Sustain an evaluation protocol for Preschool for All Teachers and Parent Educators.
  7. Participate in the annual performance review.
  8. Maintain program documentation records and reports for the Illinois State Board of Education.
  9. Assist with grant writing.
  10. Demonstrate participation in professional activities.
  11. Participate in training and/or university coursework as needed and required.
  12. Perform other responsibilities as needed.

Appointment: This is a term, non-tenure-track appointment. Reappointment is contingent on performance, programmatic need and availability of funding.
