EVERYBODY COUNTS A DISABILITY RIGHTS AGENCY Everybody Counts is part of a national network of 500+ similar state and federally funded non-profit agencies which are governed by, and staffed by, a majority of people with disabilities. We have a 30-year history of providing individualized services for a wide range of clients, as well as community organizing and fostering productive collaboration to bring about much-needed systemic changes. Not everybody is happy about that. But that's okay. Change can be difficult. We're currently looking for people with a similar perspective and the sincere desire to make a difference for people with disabilities and the community as a whole. 
Volunteer Opportunities: Trained volunteers provide peer counseling to others who have just acquired or been diagnosed with a disability similar to their own, or who are dealing with similar issues. Volunteers also work to achieve compliance with the ADA, improve housing and public transit, etc. 
Employment Opportunities: We have several unique part and full time career opportunities in the field of disability rights & counseling are currently available at Everybody Counts (Merrillville) and Everybody Counts North (Hammond), both of which are easily accessible by public transit services. 

Qualifications: Must be familiar with issues faced by Northwest Indiana residents and have the ability to relate to people from all walks of life Education and experience in a related field is important, but it's also important to have a willingness to learn Knowledge related to issues people with disabilities face with lack of accessibility, housing, employment & transportation Personal experience in dealing with systemic and programmatic barriers faced by people with disabilities. Fluency in Spanish or ASL would be a real plus, but most important is a sincere desire to help make a difference. 

Available Positions: 
PEER COUNSELOR: Assists people with disabilities to identify personal/professional goals and potential barriers then work with them to accomplish their goals. 
DISABILITY RIGHTS ADVOCATE: Helps individuals to understand their rights and responsibilities, to improve their ability to make the system work more effectively. 
SENIOR/YOUTH SERVICES COORDINATOR: Works alongside young people to ensure their successful transition, and with seniors to help them live in their own homes. COMMUNITY ORGANIZER: Has excellent communication skills and knows how to maximize resources and bring people together to accomplish common goals.
