Distribution Operator; Engineering Technician

The Department of Public Utilities is seeking the following individuals: 

DISTRIBUTION TECHNICIAN - WATER DIVISION Duties include: Repair, calibrates and test water meters, maintains meter records, responds to trouble calls, investigates and corrects meter problems, changes registers in the field. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D.; minimum two years related work experience in fittings, meters and basic plumbing skills, knowledge of meter maintenance or equivalent. Must be able to work in physically demanding conditions and unfavorable weather conditions while handling heavy equipment. 

DISTRIBUTION OPERATOR - GAS DIVISION Duties include: installs & maintenance of gas connections, lines, valves, meters & regulators to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Coordinates & participates in removal/replacement of dirt, water, & debris from work site by operating heavy equipment. Performs required preventive maintenance on specified equipment. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D, minimum two years' work experience in a related work environment or equivalent. Must be able to work in physically demanding conditions and unfavorable weather conditions while handling dangerous equipment.  

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN - WATER DIVISION Duties include: Administrative maintenance & updating of the cross connection control program GIS database, asset management program, valve & hydrant maintenance program, and automated meter infrastructure. Assist with design & construction oversight of water main expansions. Assists with preparation of estimates & construction drawings, obtains field data, topographical elevations, flow test information, distances, location of other utilities & right-of-way information for water main expansions. Minimum Qualifications: Five years' experience in water distribution work, Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, proficient in Microsoft office suite and AutoCAD. 

 All Positions: Must be able to work nights, holidays, weekends, and emergencies if needed. Must possess a valid SC Driver's License and reside in the Orangeburg area due to emergency call-out or stand-by duty requirements. Subject to stand-by and 24-hour call.
